2. PwC (Pricewaterhouse Coopers Bursary)

Requirements:

  • South African citizen
  • Completed matric
  • Passed matric with acceptance for CA Studies at a SAICA-accredited university
  • MATRICS: minimum of Level 6 (70%) in mathematics and English (1st or 2nd language) with an overall average of 70% for all subjects
  • 1st YEAR STUDENTS: overall average of 65% for all subjects
  • 2nd YEAR STUDENTS: overall average of 60% for all subjects
  • 3rd YEAR and 4th YEAR students: pass all modules and must qualify for honors 
  • Exceptional command of the English language with strong communication skills

PwC looks for these skills in candidates:

  • 1ST AND 2ND YEAR student: Have maintained a 65% average across all subjects
  • 3rd AND 4th YEAR student: Have maintained a 60% average across all subjects 
  • Enrolled at a SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) accredited University.

What it covers: 

Two types of bursaries are offered:

  • Academic Merit Bursary
  • Academic Merit Bursary with Financial Needs

In return, students must complete a traineeship for the duration Ernst & Young has funded your studies (e.g. if Ernt & Young funded studies for 3 years you must complete training for 3 years for the firm).

  • South African citizen
  • Currently studying or intend to study a CA degree at a SAICA accredited university
  • MATRICS: achieve a minimum of 4 A’s (excludes Life Orientation)
  • 1st YEAR students: achieve a minimum of 70% for Financial Accounting and an overall minimum average of 65% for all other subjects
  • 2nd YEAR students: achieve a minimum of 65% for Financial Accounting and an overall minimum average of 65% for all other subjects
  • 3rd YEAR students: achieve a minimum of 60% for Financial Accounting and an overall minimum average of 60%
  • CTA: achieve a minimum 55% for Financial Accounting and an overall minimum average of 50%

What it covers:

Two types of bursaries are offered:

  • The Pure Merit Bursary: apply here if you do not need extensive funding for your studies.
  • The Merit Bursary with Financial Needs: apply here if you need extensive funding, otherwise without this type of funding you would not be able to attend university

Both are based on academic achievement.
